Karl Sterling is a neuro-rehabilitation specialist and NASM Master Trainer based in Syracuse, New York, and is the creator of the Parkinson’s Regeneration Training ® and NeuroMotor Training ® education programs.

While his extensive experience as a rehabilitation specialist includes working with a variety of populations, he primarily specializes in working with clients who have movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), MS, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, Alzheimer’s, Epilepsy, Autism, and more.

Five years. No medications. Parkinsons Improving

Dr. Christian Hageseth, a 75-year-old retired psychiatrist has had PD for 5 ½ years. He tried three medications briefly early in his illness, but stopped due to side effects and expense.

The day after his diagnosis he started studying yoga and now practices it daily. For exercise he does what he calls Mindful Power Walking and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT, also called Tabata). Finally, he has studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and meditates for 45 minutes each morning.

He has fewer motor symptoms that are less severe since the time of his diagnosis. Last year he hiked up a 14000-foot mountain peak in Colorado. When meeting people for the first time most cannot tell he has PD. He now feels it is his mission to train other Persons with Parkinsons (PwPs) how to reduce their medications, reduce some motor symptoms, and live a fuller life.

How to Create New Neural Pathways

Doing the same things the same way day in and day out dig deep ruts into the same, tired neural pathways. Our neurons get rutted and cluttered with debris. Symptoms flare.

What can be done? Existing neurological pathways can be cleared and cleansed or we can create new pathways. Either approach reduces or eliminates symptoms.

The most expedient approach is to pave new pathways which means our habits have to be transformed. How can this be accomplished? Answering this question has been the focus of my research over the past year. Two opportunities are available to explore the possibilities.

First, natural methods to create new neural pathways can be explored which is the focus of my Jump Start to Recovery  course.

Second, I discuss a variety of exciting methods for creating new neural pathways during this radio show. All of my suggestions embrace natural approaches.
