Benefits of Exercise According to Lyle Gibson

The research clearly documents an endless list of benefits from exercise. Get the inside scoop on exercise from one man who has experienced relief from his own symptoms.

Lyle Gibson on Parkinsons Recovery Radio

Lyle Gibson is a life-long resident of Burlington, Iowa who is author of “A Lifetime in Motion: Lessons Learned From a Student of the Game(s)”.  He was a baseball player, tennis pro, a Boston Marathoner and local high school baseball and tennis coach.  He won over 400 games as a high school baseball coach and has always had a thirst to be in motion and with this developed into a very competitive individual.

He is featured in the “cover” stories in the latest “Live it!” magazine put out by the Iowa Parkinson Association .  He has been interviewed on the “Paula Sands Live” television Show in the Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois), has had several radio and newspaper interviews and spoken to over 30 groups. His book is full of true stories of his life in sports as a player and as a coach and the “life lessons” learned from those experiences.

The final (unplanned) chapter deals with his diagnosis of Parkinson’s approximately two years ago and the changes in priorities and the new life lessons he has learned from it. He discusses the faith, the importance of family and friends and the open-mindedness that is necessary to continue to lead a meaningful, productive life.  He also tells people of the importance of exercise to both healthy individuals and more importantly those with some type of an affliction.

Lyle Gibson was was a baseball player, tennis pro, a Boston Marathoner and local high school baseball and tennis coach. Lyle is better qualified than anyone I know to discuss the benefits of exercise for Parkinson’s. He was diagnosed several years ago.

A Fresh Perspective on How to Maintain Good Balance and Prevent Falls

Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of Balance/Auditory/Vision eXercises, all of which are deeply rooted in rhythm. Using sand-filled bags and racquetballs, the exercises address visual tracking deficiencies, auditory imprecision, impulsivity, balance and anxiety issues. Some exercises combine bags/balls with feet patterns. More than half can be done while seated.

Requiring multiple thousands of mid-line crossings in three dimensions, exercises are steadily rhythmic, each executed at a pace that naturally results from proper physical techniques.

Bal-A-Vis-X is a carefully modulated system of exercises that become increasingly complex OR simplified/modified for those with the most severe special needs. The youngest to use the program on a regular basis is three. The oldest thus far is 105.

History Tells Us Muscular-Skeletal Problems Cause Parkinsons

Since Noel Batten overcame several serious health issues himself as a teenager and then became qualified as a natural practitioner, he dedicated his life to helping others overcome what he calls muscular rigidity disorders such as Parkinsons disease and MS. His treatment is based on 3 findings documented by Dr. James Parkinson while treating patients and carrying out autopsies on Parkinson patients who passed away. These 3 facts can be found in Dr. Parkinsons book An Essay On The Shaking Palsy and how to get this historic book, along with Noels explanation on these 3 facts can be obtained from Noels website www.ParkinsonsDiseaseCure.com

Noel has been treating Parkinson and MS patients with his unique approach, since 2005 and he has numerous before and after success videos on his website, of patients he has treated, some who have walked away from wheelchairs in a matter of only days.

Noels message to people listening to this interview, is that if you have any symptom attributed to Parkinsons disease, for example: – stiffness, numbness or tremors, you will ultimately find that they are caused by some type of muscular-skeletal abnormality. Dr. James Parkinson explains in his book that the two most common abnormalities are problems at the C1 vertebra at the very base of the skull and spinal curvature.

Are Exposures to Electromagnetic Fields Contributing to Your Symptoms?

In 2002 Lloyd Burrell became very sick. His doctors could find nothing wrong with him. He realized that he was reacting to the electromagnetic fields from the electrical devices in his environment, cell phones, computers, cordless phones and even electrical wiring.

In 2009 he created https://www.electricsense.com to raise awareness and offer solutions to the growing number of people whose health is being compromised, often unknowingly, by exposure to wireless and similar technologies.

Lloyd Burrell has a wealth of information on his website his goal is to help people that are struggling to deal with EMF exposures.

Gravity, Human Movement and Parkinsons Disease

Looking for better mobility? Michael Protzel has some marvelous suggestions for you.

Innate human coordination requires being in sync with the STRAIGHT-down influence of gravity. This enables us to tap the substantial energy generated by the downward movement of our body mass.

In infancy, we all learn this highly evolved skill as we teach ourselves to sit, stand and walk with grace and power. Early in childhood, however, through deep cultural conditioning, we forget. From the day we are born, we see everyone around us sitting back in chairs, sofas, car seats, etc. At around 3 or 4, we get sucked into this utterly normal, but mal-adaptive behavior. We begin sitting-back with staggering repetition. In so doing, we interfere with gravity’s influence by sending our body mass down on a BACKWARDS trajectory.

Our brains automatically react — with muscular strain and skeletal distortion — to keep our head/neck functionally vertical. We don’t notice these reactions nor feel anything unusual. It all happens subconsciously. This kinesthetic disconnect spills over into how we stand and walk.

The consequences are all around us: society-wide epidemics of bad posture, lower back and neck pain, knee and hip replacements. For people with Parkinsons, the consequences are even more severe, restricting free movement considerably. This can be changed — through re-developing sensitivity to our downward-moving body mass and how it is affecting us moment-by-moment.  www.uprighting.com

Positive Deviants in Parkinsons Disease: What do Non-Progressors have in Common

My guest today is Dr. Laurie Mischley ND who will be discussing her exciting research program and discoveries as they pertain to Parkinson’s disease. The focus of her work is on describing conditionally essential nutrients in Parkinsons disease (PD), attempting to describe the nutritional status and requirements unique to individuals with neurodegenerative diseases.

She has published on coenzyme Q10 deficiency in PD, completed her masters thesis on lithium deficiency in PD, and is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on glutathione in PD. In 2013, she and her team completed a Phase I Safety & Tolerability Study of Intranasal Glutathione in PD.

Dr. Mischley is a clinical research assistant professor at Bastyr University, where she is principal investigator of other PD studies including, CAM Care in PD and Cannabis in PD Tremor.

Mindfulness, Meditation and Parkinson’s Disease

My guest is Bob Stahl, Ph.D. who answers the question “What is mindfulness?” and discusses how mindfulness would help people live fulfilling lives with Parkinson’s. As explained on his website [www.mindfulnessprograms.com]:

“Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of what is happening in the present moment. Whenever you bring awareness to what you are directly doing or experiencing in your body and mind, you are being mindful.”

Dr. Stahl founded 7 Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programs in medical centers throughout the San Francisco bay Area and currently directs programs at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, El Camino Hospital in Mountain View and Los Gatos. He serves as a Senior Teacher for the Oasis Institute for Mindfulness-based Professional Education and Training.

Dr. Stahl is a co-author of “A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook”, “Calming the Rush of Panic” “A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety”, “Living with Your Heart Wide Open” and other marvelous books.
